NRF-SAIAB Wins 2nd Place for Best Stand at Working World Exhibition 2026

The NRF-South African Institute for Aquatic Biodiversity (NRF-SAIAB) has been awarded 2nd Place for Best Stand out of approximately 70 institutions at the 2026 Working World Exhibition (WWE), held from 17–19 February 2026 at the Tramways Building in Gqeberha.

The Best Stand Award recognizes excellence based on the effort invested in creating a diverse and interesting display, the level of interaction between staff and visitors, and the overall appeal and enthusiasm demonstrated at the stand. The Working World Exhibition, now in its 27th year, is South Africa’s leading career development platform which addresses youth unemployment by equipping learners and unemployed youth with career guidance and study opportunities.

The event brings together education institutions, industry and government to help young people make informed career choices.

At the NRF-SAIAB stand, learners interacted with scientific equipment, including respiratory fish chambers and preserved specimens, and participated in a microscope demonstration which illustrated how scientists determine the age of fish using otoliths. The team also distributed career booklets and provided guidance on subject selection and academic pathways into fisheries science, marine biology and aquatic ecology. This recognition reflects NRF-SAIAB’s continued commitment to impactful science communication and inspiring the next generation of scientists dedicated to protecting South Africa’s aquatic ecosystems.

To be continued.
