Marine Technician (Skipper): Coastal Craft

NRF-SAIAB is a National Research Facility of the National Research Foundation. SAIAB is a world-renowned centre for the study of African aquatic biodiversity.
Through funding from the Department of Science and Innovation (DSI), the African Coelacanth Ecosystem Programme (ACEP) has built up a marine research platform comprised of state of the art equipment. ACEP makes available and facilitates the use of this equipment for projects among partnering researchers and institutions from around South Africa.

Purpose: The NRF-SAIAB’s Coastal Craft platform serves the greater Marine Science Community through the African Coelacanth Ecosystem Programme(ACEP). We are in search of a skilled individual to maintain and skipper SAIAB’s Coastal Craft vessels in Durban.

Bioinformaticist (AGRP)

NRF-SAIAB is a National Research Facility of the National Research Foundation. SAIAB is a world-renowned centre for the study of African aquatic biodiversity.

Purpose: The primary focus of this position is to assist genomics researchers utilising the Aquatic Genomics Research Platform (AGRP) in the development of data analysis pipelines for genomics-based research. This includes assistance with a range of applications including metabarcoding, whole genome assembly, metagenomics and transcriptomics. Assistance will be rendered in the initial development of the appropriate data analysis pipeline as well as teaching AGRP researchers how to utilise these pipelines/tools to analyse their data.
