Position: PDP Postdoctoral Research Fellow: South African Institute for Aquatic Biodiversity
Dr Nompumelelo Catherine Baso is a young Aquatic Ecologist and Data Analyst. With her PhD in Botany, from Rhodes University, she has seamlessly blended independent research with collaborative activities. Her journey began at a small village in the Eastern Cape, where she aced all her subject, including an A in Life Science at Ncedolwethu S.S.S. Her career path has been dynamic, spanning roles as a research assistant, lab demonstrator, and Augmenting lecturer. Whether its identifying aquatic macroinvertebrates or clarifying complex scientific concepts, she thrives on making science accessible. Currently, as a postdoctoral fellow at the South African Institute for Aquatic Biodiversity, Dr Baso is looking at fostering trophic resistance to climate change and biological invasions in African freshwater ecosystems through biological control. Her groundbreaking work has led to several peer-reviewed articles in top scientific journals. When she’s not immersed in research, you’ll find Dr Baso helping others make sense of their data @ Baso R-Analytics, or in the garden with her inquisitive toddler.
