Position: Instrument Scientist; Freshwater Field and Lab Ecologist: South African Institute for Aquatic Biodiversity
In 2013, Dr Lubabalo Mofu joined the South African Institute for Aquatic Biodiversity (SAIAB) as a Department of Science and Technology/ National Research Foundation (DST/NRF) intern. Dr Mofu is primarily interested in the effects of human actions (anthropogenic activities) on aquatic ecosystem processes and associated services. More specifically, his research mainly revolves around the life history traits of freshwater fish, population dynamics, and stock assessment methods.
Dr Mofu uses both experimental and modelling approaches to determine the environmental impacts of stressors such as alien species, shifting climate, and pollution, which will inform policy and decision making pertaining to the management and sustainable use of natural resources and ecosystems at local to regional scales.
His recent work focused on understanding biotic interactions in invaded pond communities using a mixed-method approach to assess resource utilisation, predator-prey interactions, and food web structure of these man-made impoundments.
