Position: Postdoctoral Research Fellow: South African Institute for Aquatic Biodiversity.
Dr Tadiwa Mutizwa’s research focusses on systematics and taxonomy. This research examines the evolutionary relationships between groups of organisms and how we group them into distinct taxa. Furthermore, the research provides a basis for classifying biological diversity, a fundamental requirement for understanding complex ecosystems. Dr Mutizwa’s recent work has been on the taxonomic revision of freshwater fishes from the genera Heteromormyrus, Chiloglanis and Brachyalestes. With these recent studies, he aims to improve our understanding of the taxonomy, ecology and conservation of poorly studied freshwater fish species from southern Africa.
