The EAF-Nansen Programme of Norway/FAO, in collaboration with the NRF–South African Institute for Aquatic Biodiversity (NRF-SAIAB), will commemorate World Fisheries Day 2025 as part of the NRF-SAIAB Annual Student Symposium, with a public celebration  to be held at Rhodes University’s Eden Grove Blue venue in Makhanda.

The event will mark the official conclusion of the Second EAF-Nansen Programme Post-Survey Workshop on Taxonomy Research, and will recognize the important contribution of science, research, and collaboration to sustainable fisheries and healthy aquatic ecosystems.

Visitors will have the opportunity to explore a dedicated EAF-Nansen information desk outside the Eden Grove Blue venue, featuring engaging displays and activities that showcase the Programme’s work and its 50-year history of supporting science-based fisheries management.

Experts from the EAF-Nansen Programme and partner NRF-SAIAB will be present throughout the day to engage with visitors, share insights, and answer questions.

Open to university students, workshop participants, media representatives, and the public, this event will celebrate the shared commitment to sustainable fisheries, marine biodiversity, and the partnerships that make global ocean stewardship possible.
